How Is Rent Determined?
Rent is based on a resident’s gross income. This is calculated by subtracting approved medical expenses from their income. Residents pay 30% of the adjusted income for rent.
What is Section 8 Housing?
Section 8 is a program through the HUD that offers rental assistance for low-income tenants who meet the federal requirements for the program.
The HUD determines residency requirements. To be eligible for an apartment under the HUD Section 8 program, you:
- Must have an annual income consistent with HUD guidelines
- You or your spouse must be at least 62 years of age or older
- OR you are under 62 years of age and receiving Social Security Disability Benefits
